The Lonely Road to La Push

Highway 101 en route to La Push, WA was virtually deserted. Dense fog and steady precipitation keep us company as we only rarely encountered other vehicles while skirting the western edge of Olympic National Park. Upon setting up our site, we realized we’d be able to hear the crash of the waves and the whipping wind even from inside the camper…perfect.

The campsite was located on land owned by the Quileute tribe, and the sense of history was palpable. This was offset by the quirky/kitschy nearby town of Forks (familiar to you Twilight fans). Though we did not spend much time in Forks, the La Push area was one of my favorite stays so far! We explored further north into land owned by the Makah tribe, enjoying Neah Bay, the Cape Flattery trail and vantage points they afforded. It was a muddy hike, but we were so glad we did it.
